Eight-year-old Jack Moss found safe and well following major search

An eight-year-old boy was found safe and well following a major search in Gateshead.

Jack Moss was reported missing on Tuesday afternoon after running away from his grandparents at the Aldi supermarket in Dunston.

The schoolboy was last seen at about 3.10pm but he is from the Washington area and does not know the Dunston area.

Officers, including the police helicopter, searched the Dunston area this afternoon.

Jack is described as white, 4ft, has a slim build and mousey brown/ginger hair.

He was wearing a distinctive brown coat, a green T-shirt with a dinosaur on it and black trainers.

Police at the scene confirmed shortly before 5.45pm that Jack was found in Newcastle city centre and was believed to have walked there.

Force Operational Manager, Mick Hall, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who shared our appeal and assisted us in our search for Jack this afternoon.

“It was a call from a member of the public which led our officers to Jack – now we can get him home safely.”
