A search is under way at the River Boyne following reports a "young boy" has fallen into the water.

Emergency services rushed to the scene near the Bridge of Peace in Drogheda, Co Louth shortly after 10.15pm on Wednesday night.

Gardai say an "extensive search" was carried out overnight but no person was located.

It's understood that gardai have not received a report of a missing boy that fits the description.

Searches along the River Boyne are due to continue this morning.

A spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "Gardaí responded to reports that a young boy had fallen into the River Boyne at the Bridge of Peace in Drogheda yesterday, 3rd June 2020 at approximately 10.15pm.

"An extensive search was carried out by Gardaí and Emergency services into the early morning but no young male was located.

"Searches are set to continue along the river this morning."
