Major search launched for missing kayaker in Firth of Forth amid thunderstorms and torrential rain

A search operation is ongoing to find a kayaker reported missing off the Edinburgh coast.

The alarm was raised with HM Coastguard shortly before 7pm on Sunday, July 4, as the region was battered by a heavy thunderstorm.

The person was spotted in the Firth of Forth by a concerned passerby.

A Coastguard helicopter has been drafted in to search the area while RNLI crews, including the teams from Kinghorn and Queensferry, have been called to help.

Emergency service vehicles have also been spotted on the shoreline at Cramond.

More to follow.
