Major search launched as child goes missing on Formby Beach

A major search operation was launched after a child went missing on Formby Beach.

Coastguard and lifeguard rescue teams launched the search on quad bikes, with a drone over the beach and a lifeboat scouring the water.

The alarm was raised at around 2.45pm yesterday (Tuesday).

A post on Southport Lifeboat's Facebook page reads: "Our lifeboat, quad bikes and UAS (drone) were requested to assist in the search for a missing child who was last seen in the water at Formby Beach [on Tuesday afternoon].

"As our lifeboat was leaving the station, our crew stood down as the incident had been resolved."

The coastguard confirmed the child had been found safe and well by parents.

Their spokesperson told the ECHO : "At 2.45pm yesterday, Crosby and Southport Coastguard Rescue Teams, a lifeboat from Southport and Formby RNLI Lifeguards were sent to a report of a missing child on Formby Beach.

"The child was found safe and well by parents whilst search and rescue units were proceeding to the incident.”

Police say if your child, or someone you know, is missing, please don’t hesitate to contact police.

Always call 999 if the missing person is in immediate danger, is a young child or vulnerable to harm.
