Major search launched after woman goes missing from nursing home

A major search was launched to find an elderly woman who went missing from a nursing home in Wexford yesterday.

The missing woman, believed to be in her 70s, had been reported missing from the nursing home in Enniscorthy around 10pm on Tuesday night, according to The Wexford People.

Gardai as well as nursing home staff and other organisations began the search on foot around the surrounding area but were unable to locate her.

The Rescue 117 helicopter was called to join the search in the early hours of Wednesday morning as concerns mounted for the woman's safety.

The Coast Guard’s helicopter arrived in Enniscorthy at around 5am. It searched the area from above using an infrared camera and eventually the crew spotted a person by a stream.

Emergency services were alerted to the stream and luckily the missing woman was found unharmed.

She was taken by ambulance to Wexford General Hospital for general check over.

People reacted online to the positive outcome of the rescue, with one person writing: "Well done, glad the lady was found safe."

Another said: "Well done to all for a good outcome."
