Major search for missing fishing boat with three people on board

A search has been launched for a fishing boat missing off the coast of north Wales with three people board.

The Coastguard and RNLI crews are involved in the search off the coast of Rhyl for the boat, which was due back at midnight but had failed to return.

They are looking for the trio following a request from Holyhead Coastguard after the boat failed to return to dock.

RNLI crews from Rhyl, Conwy, Hoylake and Llandudno, and aircraft are involved in the search, reports North Wales Live.

Two fixed-wing aircraft operated by HM Coastguards and a helicopter are scouring the waters off the coastline for the fishing boat and its occupants.

An RNLI spokesperson said in a statement: "At just after 10am today (28th January), HM Coastguard received a report of an overdue fishing vessel with three people on-board.

“The vessel had departed from Conwy, on the north coast of Wales, yesterday (27th January). The vessel was expected back in port at midnight last night.

“HM Coastguard is currently coordinating an ongoing search and rescue response to locate the vessel.

“Rhyl, Bangor and Llandudno Coastguard Rescue Teams have been sent to assist along with five RNLI lifeboats from Rhyl, Llandudno and Conwy.

“The HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Caernarfon is also on scene assisting with searches.

“A fixed-wing Coastguard aircraft from Doncaster is also proceeding to the scene. Broadcasts have been made to alert vessels in the nearby area.”
