Major search for man seen entering River Trent enters third day

The search for a man seen entering the River Trent has entered its third day.

The major multi-agency search began at 5.17pm on Friday, January 8, when emergency services lined up on Trent Bridge in West Bridgford to respond to reports of the man going into the water.

Specialist teams have been searching in the water and police have been making enquiries to try and establish what happened.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police confirmed it is still an active search today, Sunday, January 10, and that no-one has yet been located.

Inspector Andy Wright, of Nottinghamshire Police, told Nottinghamshire Live on Saturday: "So far no-one has been located and our extensive enquiries are ongoing.

"We're urging any drivers who may have been travelling along the A60 London Road (Trent Bridge) at around 5.15pm on Friday who may have captured dashcam footage which could help us with our investigations to please come forward.

"We would also like to hear from any members of the public who may have been walking past at the time and may have seen something. Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could help us with our enquiries.

"If you have any information please call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 458 of 8 January 2021."

Phill Revill, a group manager of the fire service, has urged anyone who sees someone entering the water to not go in after them and instead to call the emergency services.

He added: "The temperature of the water will be extremely cold and the survivability when entering is very low."
