Major search ends tragically as man's body recovered from River Shannon

A man's body was tragically found after a major search and rescue operation on the River Shannon yesterday.

Gardai and emergency services had rushed to the scene in Limerick city at around 1pm after reports that a man had entered the water.

Limerick Gardaí, fire patrol, the underwater dive unit and helicopter Rescue 117 all attended the incident just before lunchtime.

Tragically, a body was later recovered from the water, before being moved to University Hospital Limerick.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror last night, a garda spokesman said: "Gardaí and emergency services carried out a search operation earlier today.

"A body of a male was recovered and removed to University Hospital Limerick."
