Major Salford road forced to close as emergency services attend 'police incident'

A major road in Salford has been forced to closed following a police incident this afternoon (September 13).

There is significant congestion in the area around Pendleton Roundabout after emergency services were called to the scene.

Diversions are now in place, directing traffic away from Broad Street.

Officers were called to the area shortly after 2.20pm after concerns were raised regarding the welfare of a woman.

Several public transport services have also been diverted away from the area.

Journey times around Pendleton Roundabout are currently around 45 minutes longer than usual.

Writing on Twitter, Go North West bus company wrote: "Service update #GNW52 #GNW67 #GNW95 #GNW100 due to an earlier police incident at Pendleton Roundabout delays around Salford and surrounding roads.

"Delays of approx. 15 - 45+ mins as a result."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed the situation.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers were called at 2.21pm to Broad Street today (September 13) to concerns over the welfare of a woman."
