Major roadworks on A38 near Bristol Airport rescheduled due to weather

A major scheme to resurface a six kilometre section of the A38 near Bristol has been delayed – because of the weather.

Work was due to be carried out to surface dress a section of the A38 between the South Bristol Link Road and the junction of Downside Road, near Bristol Airport, this weekend.

But due to the inclement weather – and heavy rain forecast – the work has now been put on hold until next weekend.

Now the work, costing £380,000, will be carried out on June 22 and 23. Originally it was scheduled to take place from 5am to noon on the Saturday and Sunday.

Traffic heading out of Bristol towards the airport during these hours will be diverted along South Bristol Link Road, A370 and Brockley Combe.

Outside these hours, the A38 will be open with temporary reduced speed limits until line painting is finished later in the week.

People travelling to Bristol Airport are being advised to leave more time for their journeys.

Surface dressing costs around a quarter of full resurfacing options and takes days rather than weeks to complete.

It increases the life of a road by up to 12 years, protects it from water damage and improves surface skid resistance, which makes the road safer.
