Some motorists have been left at a standstill due to a traffic lights failure near Braehead.
One driver claimed he had only moved three miles in two hours, with another hitting out at the 'madness' on the roads.
Traffic Scotland confirmed the reason for the significant congestion in the area, near Braehead and Hillington, is due a traffic light failure.
They Tweeted: "We've had multiple tweets requesting info on the congestion around Hillington and Braehead in @RenCouncilNews - we have now been informed that the lights are out here causing these delays and an engineer is en route."
Other drivers say it took them two hours to travel between Braehead and Linwood, while McGills buses have warned people to 'expect delays to services' as a result of 'severe' traffic congestion.
