Major road closures sparked by man outside police station

Major Liverpool roads were closed this evening, surrounding St Anne Police Station, following reports of a man causing obstruction.

Officers first received reports of concern for the safety of a man outside the police station at around 5.30pm.

As a result, surrounding roads, including St Anne Street, Great Homer Street and parts of Islington were closed during the incident.

Emergency services attended the scene and a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing obstruction to the road.

No one was injured during the incident and all roads have now re-opened to the public.

A Merseyside police spokesperson said: "At around 5.30pm this evening (Friday 19 March) we received reports of concern for safety of a male outside St Anne Street police station.

"Emergency services attended and Islington was closed as a precaution.

"Officers assessed the scene and a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing obstruction of the highway.

"All roads in the area have now been re-opened and nobody was injured during the incident."
