Major road closed and residents urged to keep windows shut after gas leak

A major road was closed as residents were urged to keep their windows shut following a gas leak.

Gas engineers worked to fix the problem but motorists were warned to avoid the area.

Police said the A41, between Station Road and Weatherby Way, in Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port was shut.

The force tweeted to say the road was closed at about 2pm.

Ellesemere Port Police said: "The A41 is closed between Station Road and Wetherby Way in Little Sutton, Ellesmere Port, due to a gas leak.

"Gas engineers are at the scene.

"Motorists are urged to avoid the area. Anyone in the immediate vicinity is advised to close their windows and doors as a precaution."

At this stage it is not clear what has caused the gas leak.

At about 4.30pm, the force said: "A41 Chester Road is now open.

"Local residents are now free to go outside and open their windows. Thank you for your cooperation."
