A major road connecting central Liverpool with the north end of the city has been closed after a former pub collapsed in the early hours of the morning.
Parts of the former Parrot pub on Scotland Road collapsed and fell onto the pavement with bricks and other debris left strewn across the road. Pictures show the external wall facing onto the busy thoroughfare had broken away exposing the interior.
Merseyside Police said they were alerted to the incident by Merseyside Fire and Rescue at around 1am on Sunday April 16. They added that nobody was injured by the collapsed walls and the situation is now being dealt with by Liverpool City Council and its highways department.

Scotland Road is currently closed to all northbound traffic. Demolition workers remain at the site and are carrying out works to make the building safe.
The Parrot has not been in use for a number of years with the building gradually deteriorating. Photographs show the entirety of the wall has now been removed by the demolition company.
Scotland Road was once famed for its large number of pubs but has seen nearly all of them close or redeveloped in recent decades. The last remaining pub on the stretch of road, The Throstles Nest, was put up for sale in Autumn last year.
