Major road closed after serious crash and car fire

A main road in Liverpool has been closed since the early hours of Sunday after a reported car crash and fire.

It is believed that at around 5am a car reportedly crashed and caught fire on East Prescot Road, close to the major roundabout near the old Greyhound pub.

The road is currently closed in both directions between Eaton Road and Pilch Bank Road, with surrounding roads also affected.

Merseyside Police, ambulance and fire crews are all reportedly in attendance, with the road being closed since 6am.

Live traffic monitor INRIX said: "A57 East Prescot Road in both directions closed due to accident investigation work from Pilch Bank Road to Eaton Road.

"A car on fire was involved."
