Major road closed after rush hour crash

A major road was closed after a rush hour car crash this morning.

Police were forced to close a section of Town Lane, Kew, Southport , at around 8:30am after the crash involving a Skoda Fabia and a Mercedes 6250.

According to one passer-by, the front ends of both cars were badly damaged in the crash.

Diversions were set up from the junction with Town Lane, causing lengthy delays for those travelling to Southport Hospital, nearby Kew Woods Primary School and Meols Cop High School.

One of the drivers suffered minor injuries in the crash but did not require hospital treatment.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: "We were called just after 8.30am to an RTC on Town Lane, near the housing estate.

"There were no serious injuries. One man is described as 'walking wounded' and did not need an ambulance."

Police say the road is due to fully re-open shortly after 10am once the cars had been recovered.
