Major road closed after 'pedestrian hit by car'

A major road remains closed by police after a serious crash involving a car and a pedestrian.

Ullet Road in Aigburth, near to the junction with Aigburth Road, is cordoned off this morning, September 26.

Emergency services were called to the area at around 9.45pm on Saturday to reports of a crash.

Merseyside Police believe the pedestrian was hit by a Seat Ibiza car and investigations are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.

The driver of the Seat stopped at the scene and is assisting the police.

Photos taken at the scene on Sunday morning show a large police cordon stretching across Ullet Road and a car sitting inside the cordon.

People travelling in the area today have reported being turned around by police and asked to follow a diversion.

The road is expected to be closed for some time whilst police carry out their investigations.

A police spokesperson said: "We realise that this will cause disruption and would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst investigations are carried out."
