Major road closed after crash involving two cars

There was a heavy police presence in Kensington this evening after a crash between two vehicles.

Part of Sheil Road, between the junctions with Boaler Street and Molyneux Road, was cordoned off after two vehicles appeared to have been involved in a head-on collision.

Merseyside Police confirmed the incident involved a road traffic collision but further details have not been released at this stage.

Witnesses told the ECHO that up to eight emergency vehicles responded to the incident.

Unconfirmed reports suggest a pedestrian may have been hit in the collision, and some witnesses described a casualty being stretchered from the scene by emergency service workers.

It is not clear the extent of any injuries but an ambulance and rapid response vehicle from the North West Ambulance Service remained on scene.
