Major resurfacing works to take place this weekend on "key route" in and out of Larkhall

Major resurfacing work on the B7078 Carlisle Road in Larkhall will be carried out over the next two weekends.

The work will require the closure of the road at the southern end of Larkhall between Carlisle Court and the Canderside Roads Depot and has been scheduled to be carried out over two weekends to help minimise disruption.

The first phase will see the road closed from 7.30am on Saturday, February 29, until 8pm on Sunday, March 1.

The following weekend will see the second closure from 7.30am on Saturday, March 7, until 8pm on Sunday, March 8.

To carry out these works safely, a little over 400m of this section of Carlisle Road will be closed and all traffic will be diverted via Canderside Toll, A71 Ayr Road, B7019 Burnhead Road, Hareleeshill Road, Keir Hardie Road, Machan Road, Strutherhill and Carlisle Road.

Access for businesses and residents will be maintained where possible.

South Lanarkshire Council Head of Roads and Transportation Gordon Mackay said: “We recognise that this section of Carlisle Road is a key route in to and out of the southern end of  Larkhall and aim to keep disruption to a minimum by carrying out the work at the weekend.

“I would encourage all road users making journeys which would normally involve this stretch of Carlisle Road to allow additional travelling time and plan their route accordingly during the periods of closure.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that may occur during these essential road improvement works.
