Major rescue operation after climber falls 50ft from cliff at Fife climbing hotspot

A major rescue operation was underway in Fife this afternoon after a man fell 50ft from a cliff at local climbing hotspot.

The emergency services were called to Hawkcraig Point in Aberdour on Sunday afternoon, with the RNLI also dispatching a helicopter from Prestwick.

The picturesque village was overtaken by a large emergency service presence as rescuers raced to help the man.

He was found on the beach after falling some 50ft from the cliff.

RNLI Kinghorn mobilised to the scene where they supported other emergency workers with the rescue.

The man was later taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with suspected spinal injuries.

It was the first of two incidents in Fife that required support from a helicopter, with an air ambulance also dispatched to a 63-year-old who fell from a roof in Kirkcaldy.
