Major rail disruption on the East Coast mainline after person hit by train at Berwick

Rail passengers are faced with major delays after a person was hit by a train at Berwick.

The line was blocked in both directions at the Northumberland town after a person was struck by a train at around on Tuesday.

Paramedics and the British Transport Police were both sent to the scene at around 5.30pm.

Cross Country and LNER services were both been affected, with the lines reopened at around 7.45pm.

Trains were either cancelled or delayed by up to 60 mintues.

The 3.30pm London King's Cross to Glasgow service was terminated at Newcastle and restarted at Edinburgh, missing out Alnmouth.

LNER organised a rail replacement service for passengers travelling from Berwick.

Tickets for Cross Country trains are also being accept on other services, including LNER, Virgin Trains, ScotRail and TransPennine Express.
