Major product recall of 80 products sold in Aldi, Asda, Sainsbury's and Lidl

Numerous supermarkets have recalled more than 80 hummus products over Salmonella fears.

Shoppers are being urged to return the food items for a refund following a previous warning from The Food Standards Agency (FSA).

Dip maker Zorba Delicacies has now issued an alert as a "precaution" after an ingredient it uses was found to have the possible presence of the dangerous bug, Mirror Online reports.

It is now feared around 83 products could be contaminated.

Zorba Delicacies Limited supplies hummus to several supermarkets including Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, and Sainsbury's, as well as Spar, Safeway, Iceland and John Lewis.

The warning has been issued as a precaution (FSA)

Among the products in the recall are 10 varieties sold in Aldi and 17 from Asda, with the date codes between October 28 and November 9.

Asda has apologised for the inconvenience while Morrisons urged customers not to eat the products.

A spokesperson for the supermarket said: "Zorba Delicacies apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety."

The full list of hummus products in the recall can be found on the FSA's website.

The Food Standards Agency said: "Zorba Delicacies Limited is further extending the recall to include additional brands and flavours of houmous because the products may contain salmonella.

"If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."
