A major power cut has left thousands of properties in the North East without power this evening.
Northern Powergrid power cut map reports that 5,210 premises across Sunderland and County Durham have been affected by the outage earlier this evening.
Seaham is among the areas affected by the power cut, which some residents say happened shortly after 7pm. Some homes have since regained power, but many are believed to still be without.

The power cut is reported to have been caused by an "unexpected problem with the cables or equipment" that serve the area. Anyone who needs to report an emergency to Northern Powergrid should call 105.
A message on the Northern Powergrid website reads: "The power cut affecting your property has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area."
Northern Powergrid originally estimated that power will be restored at 8.45pm.
