Major plans which would transform Govan and the River Clyde waterfront are expected to get the go-ahead next week.
Govan Housing Association has submitted a bid for planning permission in principle to develop land at Govan Cross Shopping Centre, Water Row and Govan Road.
Council officers are recommending the scheme should be approved by councillors at a meeting on Tuesday.
Hundreds of homes would be built under the plan which would be delivered in three phases, with more details requiring approval at a later date.
However, showpeople living in yards on Water Row are being relocated as part of the regeneration plans.
Alternative sites for two families are being considered but it is understood one family is continuing to oppose the move.
A Water Row Masterplan for the regeneration of the area was completed in January last year, and proposes a £57m scheme including more than 200 homes and 3500sqm of commercial space.
This planning application is the next step towards delivering the development.
However, around 30 letters of objection have been submitted to the council, including comments from the owners of Govan’s shopping centre, Proudreed Real Estate Ltd.
The company does not oppose the redevelopment of the site but believes there is a “lack of detail” on the proposed commercial space.
“This has significant implications for Govan Cross Shopping Centre and the wider town centre, should unrestricted commercial space be granted outwith the protected local town centre,” a letter states.
Other complaints included the removal of access for vehicles to to Govan and Linthouse Parish Church and the loss of informal car parking at Water Row.
Council officers state the proposal had been amended to allow vehicles to access the church.
A report to the planning committee adds the land used for car parking is allocated for development.
It states the proposed commercial space is “supportive” of the town centre, adding: “The application site does not include any works within the ownership of Govan Cross Shopping Centre.”
A petition with 47 signatures was also submitted but will not be considered as no reasons for objection were included.
The 9.5 acre development site is bounded by the River Clyde to the north, Napier Road and Napier Terrace to the east, New Govan Church, Govan Road and the shopping centre to the south and Govan Old Parish Church, Pearce Lane and Water Row to the west.
The Water Row Masterplan was commissioned by Glasgow City Council, Govan Housing Association and Central Govan Action Plan, which has a steering group made up of representatives from housing associations, community councils and the city council.
