Major plans for new supermarket on busy Nottingham city centre street

Plans have been submitted for a new supermarket on a busy road in Nottingham city centre.

The plans, if approved, would see a new store on Upper Parliament Street.

An application for signs for a new Zaap Thai Market has been submitted to Nottingham City Council by applicant Mr Gerrard Marks.

It would be built at 95 Upper Parliament Street, according to the plans.

The application will now be considered by Nottingham City Council's planning committee.

Shoppers in Nottingham welcomed the news and said that a new Thai supermarket could be a 'good idea'.

Paul Reed, 64, university lecturer, Radcliffe told Nottinghamshire Live: “It’s a great idea.

“It stops the shops looking scruffy - I think it’s a good idea.

“Put something new in there - Nottingham needs a bit of a lift.”

Michelle Morgan, 45, mum of six, Clifton said: “It adds more culture.

“Having a variety is always better.

“It should be [popular] - town is generally quite busy.”

Shashi Manickan, 34, engineer, Lenton said he thinks it could be a good idea.

Mr Manickan said: “It would be appropriate to be on the other side of town rather than here.

“Most residents are on the other side.

“I’ve not seen a Thai supermarket before - I do see a lot of Turkish supermarkets.

“I think a Thai supermarket could be a good idea.”
