Major Paisley road to shut next week as council carries out resurfacing works

A busy Paisley road is set to shut for a whole week as council workers carry out resurfacing work.

The A761 Ferguslie will be closed from Monday, September 13, to Friday, September 17, from its junction with Station Road to where it meets Fulbar Road.

There are fears the closure could cause chaos for residents and commuters with it being the main route out of the town towards Linwood, Elderslie and Johnstone.

Many drivers use the road to access the popular Phoenix Retail Park and connect with the A737.

Councillor Kenny MacLaren, who represents Paisley Northwest, admitted the closure could lead to traffic jams.

But he has argued holding off on vital works could end up leading to more issues in the longer-term.

He said: "This is an important route in and out of Paisley and any work would cause potential problems for drivers.

"However, delaying road repairs would only make matters worse and result in a longer closure later on.

"Hopefully with enough advance notice, drivers can find alternative routes and the repairs can proceed as quickly as possible."

Drivers will be able to follow a diversion that will be signposted via Main Road, Glenpatrick Road, Mackiesmill Road, Foxbar Road, Brediland Road, Lounsdale Road, A761 Ferguslie or vice versa.

There will also be a closure further along the A761 through Bridge of Weir for the same period from Torr Road to Lintwhite Crescent.

Drivers will be asked to divert via Bridge Of Weir Road, Barochan Road, Houston Road, Bridge Of Weir Road or Vice Versa.
