Major ongoing fire at Aberdeen recycling plant threatens water supplies

Fire crew have been working through the night in attempts to extinguish the blaze.

A MAJOR fire is currently being tackled by firefighters at the Altens recycling centre in Aberdeen.

The fire initially started on the afternoon of Friday the 8th, and was reportedly extinguished late Friday night.

However, it resurged around midnight, and fire crew have been working through the night in attempts to extinguish it.

The blaze has affected water supplies in the Cove Bay area of Aberdeen, with Scottish Water warning residents of supply disruption, low pressure and water discolouration.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed there are no casualties, however warn residents to be wary of smoke in the surrounding area.

They tweeted, "SFRS crews continue to manage a significant fire at a recycling centre in Altens industrial estate, Aberdeen. If visiting the estate, please be aware of wide-spread smoke."
