Arsenal are set to sign Martin Odegaard on loan for the remainder of the season and a major hint surrounding the Real Madrid man has been dropped.
The Gunners are eyeing the Norway international as their second of three January additions, with Mat Ryan already arriving from Brighton on loan and Mikel Arteta targeting a new left-back before the window slams shut.
Odegaard's arrival will provide a boost in creativity from midfield, something the north London side have lacked this season, and will ease the growing pressure on Emile Smith Rowe following his breakthrough.
Developments in the hunt for the 22-year-old have progressed significantly in recent days but fans have had to wait patiently for an announcement.
However, a major hint has been dropped by Arsenal themselves as it appears Odegaard's shirt number this season has been linked.
Supporters identified that by visiting the club's official store via the website, an option to buy a home kit with Odegaard printed on the back, as pictured below, had appeared.
Interestingly, it seems Odegaard will not take the number 10 shirt left vacant by Mesut Ozil's recent departure and he will instead take the number 11 that was last worn by Lucas Torreira.
Arteta was asked about the progress of a deal following Arsenal's win against Southampton on Tuesday, where he stated he was positive it would go through.
"I think we are pretty close, but it is not finalised. As I am standing here I have not talked to Edu or the club in the last three hours, but we are very positive that we can finalise the deal."
