Major manhunt after serious sexual assault in Lampeter results in arrest of 45-year-old suspect

A man has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault after a manhunt in Lampeter.

Dyfed-Powys Police warned drivers not to pick up hitchhikers on Thursday, May 6, as a large police search began in the Forest Road area of Lampeter for the suspect. Road checks were also conducted along the A485, south of Llangeitho, in connection with the search.

Posts on social media also suggest that armed police and a helicopter were involved in the search. Dyfed-Powys Police have not confirmed this.

Police said a 45-year-old man was arrested on the morning of Friday, May 7, in connection with a serious sexual assault in Lampeter. The victim is being supported by officers.

Detective Inspector Adam Cann from South Wales Police said: “Following a large police presence and search in the Lampeter area last night a 45-year-old male was this morning arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault. Specialist officers are supporting the victim at this time. Dedicated detectives are dealing with the suspect in custody.

“We would like to thank the public for their support and understanding as the search was conducted, with significant sightings and leads helping officers locate the suspect in a timely manner.”
