Major M62 problems as drivers facing 15 MILES of queues and over hour delays

Rush hour commuters are facing long delays on the M62 tonight following a large diesel spillage.

There are currently 15 miles of tailbacks causing severe delays for drivers on the westbound carriageway between Milnrow and Rishton Moor.

Motorists are have been told to expect delays of more than an hour and are being advised to avoid the area if possible.

One lane is closed from junction 22 at the A672 at Rishworth Moor up to junction 21 A6193 Sir Isaac Newton Way at Milnrow.

Congestion is all the way up to junction 25 at Brighouse, in Yorkshire.

The Highways Agency is reporting travel times of around one hour and 15 minutes.

Highways England tweeted: "The #M62 westbound #J22 (#Saddleworth #A672) to #J21 (#Milnrow #Shaw #A640) 1 lane has been closed due to a spillage in the carriageway.

"Traffic Officers & Maintenance Crews are currently at the scene."

They added: "If travelling in #GreaterManchester #WestYorkshire pls be aware there are LONG DELAYS #M62 westbound #Denshaw #Rishworth #Huddersfield due to this incident.

"There are over 10 miles of congestion back to J25 #Brighouse, which is likely to add 1 hour to normal journey times."
