Major London station evacuated after 'suspicious item' found on train with armed cops and helicopters at scene

A major London railway station has been evacuated by police after a 'suspicious item' was found on a train.

Armed police and 'multiple' helicopters have been reported around London Bridge station.

The Daily Star reports that British Transport Police say they were called to the station at 12.33pm following reports of a suspicious item on board a train.

One Twitter user wrote: "Strange scenes at London. The police are everywhere evacuating the station and forcing people off the platforms.

"Londoners typically demanding the police to tell them why they can't get a train to where they want to get to. Multiple helicopters in the sky above."

Another person reported seeing armed police at the scene.

"The amount of people standing around asking questions not leaving!? Just run man!" a third wrote.

The British Transport Police have tweeted within the last hour: "Officers were called to #LondonBridge station at 12.33pm today following reports of a suspicious item on board a train.

"The station has been closed as a precaution while specialist officers assess the item.

"Thank you for your patience while we respond."
