Major land and sea search operation underway to find woman last seen at caravan park

A major land and sea search is underway to find a woman last seen at a Carmarthenshire caravan park.

Susan Smith was last seen at 1.30pm on Saturday, February 27, when she was walking in the Carmarthen Bay Holiday Village, near Kidwelly.

She is known to walk along the beach to St Ishmaels and Ferryside.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police have been carrying out the search on Sunday, with the assistance of the Coastguard, RNLI and mountain rescue teams.

Ms Smith is described as approximately 5ft2, petite and with shoulder length blonde hair.

She is believed to be wearing black jeans, a black fleece type jacket and navy and grey walking boots.

Police are also appealing to speak to a person who was flying a drone in the area on Saturday.

Dyfed-Powys Police sergeant Jess Jones said: "We are currently conducting a search of the area with the assistance of H.M Coastguard, RNLI and the mountain rescue team.

"We have been made aware that someone was flying a drone in the area yesterday and we would ask that person to contact police as soon as possible."

A statement from Burry Port RNLI read: "We were paged at 3am this morning to launch both lifeboats to assist in the search for a 62-year-old female, missing in the Ferryside/St Ishmael area.

"Both boats were launched and joined Ferryside IRB, 5 UK Coastguard Search units, from Mumbles, Tenby, Oxwich, Llansteffan and Burry Port, and CG Helicopter Rescue 187, in an extensive search along Cefn Sidan Beach, the three rivers estuary, and surrounding areas.

"The search was scaled down at around 5.30am, with the helicopter and RNLI lifeboats safely returning to station.

"Dyfed-Powys Police and Coastguard units continued a shoreline search and further investigations."

Anyone who has seen Ms Smith or who has any information that could help the search is urged to contact Dyfed-Powys Police by calling 101.
