Major Jamie Vardy update as Nottingham Forest prepare for crucial Leicester City clash

Leicester City talisman Jamie Vardy is ‘pushing’ to be named in the starting line-up against Nottingham Forest as both teams return after the international break.

The 35-year-old is yet to get on the scoresheet this season and has found himself out of the starting XI for the last two Premier League games. Patson Daka has replaced the veteran striker in the line-up for games against Brighton and Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur and has been one of Leicester’s better players.

The Zambian did however return from international duty due to illness, although he should recover in time for the visit of Forest. Steve Cooper’s men travel to the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

Like Leicester, the Reds have had a few weeks to forget, losing their last four Premier League games. In those games they have conceded a total of 14 goals.

According to the Daily Mail it’s Forest’s defence that could prompt Brendan Rodgers to call on Vardy again. The striker will provide more Premier League nous than Daka, who is continuing to develop in the league.

With international retirement coming back in 2018, Vardy will have had the full international break to prepare for the game and catch the eye of Rodgers as he fights for his place back in the starting line-up. The striker has scored a total of 133 goals in 277 appearances in the Premier League.

Rodgers is not the only one to have a decision to make over who to start in attacking areas for Monday night’s clash. Forest summer signing Taiwo Awoniyi started the Premier League game against Fulham but has been in and out of the XI so far this season.

Fellow summer signing Emmanuel Dennis will be hoping to be given a chance from the start. The forward returned from international duty with injury but has been pictured in training ahead of the game.
