Major incident after 'gun shots' heard and armed police rush to scene in Plymouth, England

Air ambulances and armed police have been scrambled after gunshots were reported this evening.

Eveywitnesses have reported hearing "loud bangs" and "gun shots" in Plymouth, Devon.

Three air ambulances landed in a park before heading to a nearby hospital, Plymouth Live reported.

Local residents have reported that armed police are currently at a block of flats.

South West Ambulance Service said in statement: "We were called at 18:12 to an ongoing incident in Plymouth.

"We responded to the incident with a significant number of resources, including Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), multiple ambulances, air ambulances, multiple doctors and senior paramedics.

"Several police officers and paramedics are at the scene this evening."

A large police cordon is in place stopping pedestrians from walking down a road.

Luke Pollard, MP for Plymouth, said: "Really worrying news coming out of Keyham in Plymouth.

"Please can everyone stay safe, stay indoors and follow police advice."

A nearby school sports centre has been told close down with people indoors being ordered to leave.

Johnny Mercer, MP for Plymouth Moor View, said: "I'm aware of a serious and tragic incident unfolding in Plymouth.

"Please obey all instructions from the Police and do not post rumours or speculation on social media."
