Major improvements to Merseyside park approved

Plans to improve an historic Merseyside park have received key backing.

Knowsley Council’s cabinet approved the appointment of a new contractor to manage Roby’s Bowring Park at a meeting this evening.

The move will see a range of new features added to the park, which has already been the focus of investment in recent years.

The new additions include a new cafe and clubhouse and a number of other additions that the council say will increase the park’s appeal.

Bowring Park is a major landmark in the area but has faced a difficult period in recent years. Its usage has declined and in 2018 a company appointed to run the golf course went bust, leaving the council to step in.

Speaking this evening, cabinet member Shelley Powell said the appointment of Oneday would bring a “much needed injection of cash” to the park.

A report to cabinet members said: “Oneday’s ambition and vision for Bowring Park aligns with that of the Council, which is to see the Park transformed into a vibrant, high- quality, and multi-use venue which acts as a catalyst for empowering local people to improve their life chances.

“In this role, Bowring Park will also attract a diverse range of people from across the Liverpool City Region who will be able to readily access its heritage, cultural, leisure, education, health and wellbeing, and environmental stewardship amenities.”
