Major gas network upgrade has begun in Wishaw

The second phase of a major gas network upgrade has begun in Wishaw.

Following a short postponement, the second phase in Netherton Road – between Carbarns Road and Old Manse Road – resumed on Monday and will last for five and a half months causing roadworks misery for drivers.

GN project manager John Gilluley insisted the works will be worth the short-term pain.

He said: “A lot of planning has gone into this project and we’ll be doing everything we can to limit disruption.

“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating, however, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years.

“This means once the work has been completed, Wishaw homes and businesses will enjoy the benefits of a continued safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”

Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place in Netherton Road. These will become four-way when the works reach the junction with Old Manse Road.

Temporary bus stops may also be put in place.

The final phase in Netherton Road - between Stenton Crescent and Bourhill Crescent – will now begin on July 15 and last 12 weeks.

The company is investing £372,000 to upgrade the gas network.
