Major flooding closes part of M57

Major flooding has closed a section of the M57 into Liverpool.

The M57 is closed northbound between junction one, where it joins the M62 and junction two at Prescot due to flooding.

National Highways Traffic Officers were called to the scene at around 4pm to provide assistance with traffic management.

A spokesperson from Highways said contractors will be attending to clear the flood waters.

They continued: "Please allow extra time for your journey should you be travelling in the area this afternoon.

"Further incident information is available from National Highways on our www.trafficengland.com website.

"For urgent real-time assistance, our 24/7 contact centre team can provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000."

A full diversion has been put in place by Highways England for motorists and is as follows.

Diverted traffic should follow the solid square diversion symbol.

At the M62 J6 / M57 J1 interchange (Tarbock Island), turn onto the A5080 Cronton Road.

At the A5080/B5199 roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto the B5199 northbound (Archway Road).

Continue until the roundabout with the B5199/A57 and then take the 1st exit onto the A57.

At the roundabout with the A57/B5194, take the 3rd exit and re-join the M57 northbound at J2.
