Major fire breaks out at Fife industrial estate as plume of black smoke seen by residents

Firefighters are battling a huge blaze at an industrial estate in Cupar.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the Cupar Trading Estate in Fife at around 10.23am on Tuesday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have sent nine appliances to the scene to tackle the fierce blaze.

A spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.23am, Tuesday July 21, to reports of a fire within a building at Cupar Trading Estate, Fife.

“Operations Control has mobilised nine fire appliances, two height vehicles and a number of specialist resources to the scene where firefighters are working to extinguish the flames.

“No injuries have been reported and all surrounding buildings have been evacuated.

"Crews will remain in attendance for some time.”

Pictures from the scene show a massive plume of black smoke billowing into the air, which is visible from neighbouring towns.

Local residents have also reported hearing "an explosion" coming from the site shortly after the fire began.

Police Scotland confirmed they are also in attendance having been called at 10.45am.
