Major fall in Knowsley's covid cases

Covid cases are continuing to plummet in Knowsley, which was once the country’s virus capital.

In the week up to February 23, Knowsley registered 215 cases at a rate of 143 per 100,000.

That is significantly down on the 322 cases recorded the week before at a rate of 213 per 100,000.

The welcome news comes in the week that the Prime Minister announced the roadmap out of lockdown for England.

Speaking on Monday, Boris Johnson said English schools will reopen to all pupils on March 8.

The 'rule of six' will return on March 29, with groups of up to six or two households of a larger size being allowed to meet outdoors.

Subsequent stages will see non-essential retail and gyms reopening no sooner than April 12.
