Major Erling Haaland transfer clue dropped as Tuchel hints at future Chelsea move

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has hinted that Chelsea could consider a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the future.

The Norwegian sensation was continually linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge throughout the summer as the Blues attempted to bolster their frontline.

The club did indeed end up spending big money on a striker in the summer transfer with the £98m acquisition of Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku.

This solved Chelsea’s attacking issue, whilst it also ended speculation over the future of Haaland, who has since stayed at the Signal Iduna Park for now at least.

However, Chelsea boss Tuchel appears to have kicked off the rumours once more by finally admitting that the Blues were considering making a play for his services during the summer, although a transfer was not possible in the end.

Talking to SportBILD, the German said: “We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible.

“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.”

When asked if Chelsea could renew their interest in the 21-year-old, the Champions League winner replied: “You mean two at the top [with] Lukaku and Haaland? We can talk about it (laughs)!

He continued: “I don’t think we’ve been really serious about it yet, but let’s see what will happen in the next few weeks.”

Haaland currently has two-and-a-half years left on his contract with current employers Borussia Dortmund, with previous reports suggesting that his release clause could be slashed to just under £70million next summer.

His goalscoring record with the Schwarzgelben is exemplary, having plundered 70 goals in 69 appearances in all competitions.

Meanwhile, Lukaku has enjoyed an inconsistent start to life back at Stamford Bridge. He netted four goals in his opening four games but has since gone six matches without finding the net ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League meeting with Malmo.
