Major Dusan Vlahovic decision reached by Fiorentina amid Tottenham and Arsenal links

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has admitted that he doesn’t know whether Dusan Vlahovic will sign a new lucrative contract at Fiorentina, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.

The striker, who netted 21 goals in 40 appearances last season, has been linked with a move to a number of Europe’s top clubs in recent windows, including the likes of Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus.

Spurs were also monitoring his situation in the summer, especially when it looked as if talisman Harry Kane could leave to sign for Manchester City.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported last month that Arsenal and City are also keen on adding the Serbian to their squad, meaning competition for his signature is fierce.

Now, Commisso has admitted that Vlahovic could be set to snub a new club record contract.

“I do not know if he will sign, we are calm. We have been working on it for months, one day we are positive, others less. But I am neither positive nor negative (now),” he told Tuttomercatoweb.

“What I say is that it would be the largest figure ever given to a Fiorentina player, including [Gabriel] Batistuta and Rui Costa. He’s taking a big risk, I told him. We offer him a five-year contract at €40million gross [£35million].

“I was working a year to take what it would take in two or three days. I don’t know where it came with, this football. [I’m annoyed] a little bit, yes, Fiorentina is not just Vlahovic, the group is there and we want to keep it focused.”

Judging by Commisso’s update, persuading Vlahovic to stay will be an uphill battle, meaning one of the two north London clubs could swoop in with a move to sign him.
