Major disruption to Liverpool trains after person hit on the track

Passengers heading to Liverpool are facing major disruption after a person was hit by a train.

National Rail Enquiries has confirmed the person was struck near Crewe and train services, including several heading into Liverpool, are subsequently disrupted with lines blocked.

Customers are being warned that disruption is expected to last until at least 2pm.

It is thought the person was hit around 11am with no details on the severity of their injuries.

Services affected include Avanti West Coast between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street, Blackpool North, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.

London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street are also affected.

A National rail Enquiries spokesman said: "A person has been hit by a train between Crewe and Acton Bridge, resulting in all lines being blocked.

"Trains are currently unable to run in the area. Trains may be delayed by up to 60 minutes or be cancelled. Some Avanti West Coast services will be diverted via Manchester. Disruption is expected until approximately 14:00.

"Buses have been requested to run between Crewe and Liverpool South Parkway / Liverpool Lime Street / Preston."

If your ticket does not specify Avanti West Coast or London Northwestern Railway you may use any of the ticket acceptance outlined below.

Avanti West Coast customers

  • Transport for Wales between Crewe and Chester and also between Manchester and Chester
  • Merseyrail between Crewe and Liverpool Lime Street
  • East Midlands Railway between Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street
  • Northern between Manchester Piccadilly and Preston 
  • TransPennine Express between Manchester Piccadilly and Preston
  • London Northwestern Railway between Crewe and Birmingham New Street
  • CrossCountry between Stafford and Manchester Piccadilly

And London Northwestern Railway customers may use:

  • CrossCountry between Birmingham and Wolverhampton / Stafford / Stoke-on-Trent / Stockport / Manchester Piccadilly (for Liverpool South Parkway & Liverpool Lime Street).
  • Transport for Wales between Crewe and Chester.
  • Merseyrail between Chester and Liverpool Lime Street / Liverpool South Parkway.
  • East Midlands Railway between Stoke-on-Trent and Kidsgrove / Alsager / Crewe and also between Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool South Parkway / Warrington Central / Manchester Piccadilly.
  • Northern between Liverpool Lime Street and Liverpool South Parkway / Warrington Central /  Manchester Piccadilly.
