Major disruption on Metrolink continues with five tram lines affected

A number of Metrolink services remain suspended this morning following damage to the overhead line.

Thousands of Soccer Aid and Parklife festival ticket holders faced travel chaos last night after Transport for Greater Manchester announced disruption on multiple major tram lines. Revellers hoping to travel through Manchester using the tram after Parklife, using the Heaton Park stop, were told the Bury line was suspended due to damage to the overhead line at Victoria.

The Ashton and Rochdale lines were also affected yesterday. Engineers have worked on the scene overnight to repair the damage, though disruption remains this morning.

The Bury and Rochdale lines remain part-suspended. On the Bury line, services will run between Bury and Queens Road.

On the Rochdale line, services will run between Monsall and Rochdale town centre. There are also changes on the East Didsbury, Manchester Airport and Trafford Park lines.

The East Didsbury line is only operating as far as Deansgate Castlefield, the Manchester Airport line is only operating as far as Firswood and the Trafford Park line is only operating as far as Cornbrook. TfGM apologised for the disruption.

On Sunday, TfGM’s Interim Chief Operating Officer, Alex Cropper, said: “We apologise for the disruption to Metrolink services this evening and in particular, to those passengers attending Parklife and Soccer Aid who are affected. We are working hard to resolve the issues as quickly as possible and to minimise disruption to passengers.

"Additional staff will be on hand to support passengers across the network. Passengers are advised to check TfGM’s website for the latest travel updates for Sunday evening and Monday morning."
