Train operating services London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and ScotRail have confirmed this evening that all lines that they use to and from Edinburgh are blocked.
National Rail have confirmed that a person has been hit by a train between Edinburgh and Dunbar, with Facebook reports from local community group 'Pans Folk' suggesting that the exact location is Longniddry.
ScotRail have tweeted that: "Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Prestonpans and North Berwick.
"We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more information from our staff on the ground."
Services running through East Lothian stations such as Drem, Prestonpans, Longniddry and Musselburgh will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes, or revised with disruption expected until 8pm tonight.
Scotrail have confirmed the following bus replacement services:
- 1x Bay Travel at Edinburgh ETA 18:30
- 1x Lothian Travel at Prestonpans ETA 18:40
- 1x Lothian at North Berwick ETA 18:40
Passengers can also use their tickets with Lothian Buses between Edinburgh and Prestonpans.
The same disruptions apply to LNER services from Edinburgh to London Kings Cross.
The 14:30 LNER Kings Cross to Edinburgh due 19:13 will now be terminated at Newcastle and will no longer call at the capital.
The 17:00 LNER Edinburgh to Kings Cross due 21:29 will be started from Newcastle at 18:29 instead - it will no longer call at Edinburgh Waverley or Alnmouth this evening.
