Major disruption across Metrolink after tram 'fail' outside Deansgate Castlefield

There is major disruption across the Metrolink network due to a 'failed tram' stuck outside Deansgate station.

A large number of services heading in and out of the city centre have been affected due to the ongoing incident.

One bystander reported hearing a loud bang and flume of smoke coming the carriage of the tram as it stopped outside Deansgate Castefield.

TFGM have confirmed the issue is due to a problem with the tram's pantograph connecting to the tram overhead line.

Trams on the Ashton, Altrincham, East Didsbury, Eccles, Airport and Rochdale are all subject to delays or revisions.

No services are operating to Deansgate Castlefield.

Commuters and cricket fans travelling to Old Trafford on Friday evening have been advised to use their tickets on buses from the city centre.

A spokesperson for TFGM said: "A tram has failed near Deansgate-Castlefield stop due to a problem with the pantograph connecting the tram to the overhead line.

"This has resulted in no Metrolink services currently running between Deansgate-Castlefield and Cornbrook, affecting Eccles, Altrincham, East Didsbury and Manchester Airport services, which are running to and from Cornbrook.

"Tickets and passes are being accepted on local bus services. Please see @MCRMetrolink twitter or  tfgm.com  for live updates.
