Major delays on M1 after truck crashes, bursts into flames

THERE were significant delays on the M1 Pacific Motorway after a truck crashed down an embankment and burst into flames in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the motorway at Mount White just after 1am to reports a semi trailer lost control, crashing through a guard rail and down an embankment, igniting on impact.

"On arrival a semi was found in the bush fully involved as well as large area of bush alight. Crews got to work extinguishing the truck and bush along with other crews from RFS and FRNSW," a statement from Kariong Rural Fire Brigade said.

"Crews are still currently on scene continuing to mop up what remains and contain large amounts of diesel and oil while awaiting salvage that will happening later tonight."

The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries. Emergency services remained on scene at until 10am.

Salvage crews will return later tonight to remove the truck fire debris.
