Road closures are expected across busy city centre streets this weekend as part of the Broadmarsh development.
Nottingham City Council is set to change the 'road space' around the Broadmarsh on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7.
The work will take place around the NCP Arndale car park.
This will result in a closure of Castle Boulevard at its junction with Greyfriar Gate and onward to Collin Street.
There will also be temporary lane closures on the middle two lanes of Canal Street near Castle Boulevard to allow works to be carried out safely.
To support the future road layout, a new entrance has been created to the NCP Arndale car park off Greyfriar Gate, opposite Ocean nightclub, accessible via Canal Street.
Drivers will exit the NCP Arndale car park on to Maid Marian Way turning right only.
Access to Maid Marian Way will be maintained at the left turn from Castle Boulevard near Nottingham College in two lanes travelling northbound.
This phase of construction works will focus on changing the traffic island at the junction of Canal Street, Greyfriar Gate and Castle Boulevard to support "the long term plans to change the way traffic flows in the Broadmarsh area".
In future, traffic will divert round the Southern Relief Route from Wilford Street to London Road, allowing the creation of a new pedestrian environment on Collin Street and Canal Street.
Drivers are advised that diversions will be in place, diverting drivers up Maid Marian Way to Toll House Hill roundabout, where they can head back down Maid Marian Way to join Collin Street.
Alternatively, drivers along Castle Boulevard can turn on to Castle Marina to join Queen’s Drive and the Southern Relief Route along Waterway Street, Queen’s Road past Nottingham Station and on to London Road to continue their journey avoiding these works.
Councillor Adele Williams, portfolio holder for local transport at Nottingham City Council, said: "These changes are the next piece of the jigsaw for a much improved Broadmarsh area, making the Broadmarsh area a welcoming environment for pedestrians, cyclists and visitors to Nottingham in the post-Covid future.
"We will ensure our staff follow all Public Health England guidance while on site, maintaining social distancing and supporting our long term changes for the area while the roads are quieter.
"The Broadmarsh bus station and car park continues to progress well and it is our duty as a council to look at the wider regeneration picture for Nottingham, improving our city centre to allow it and Nottingham’s reputation to grow."
