A major city centre road is set to be hit by roadworks for months as the next stage of a massive overhaul of Liverpool's roads begins.
Signs placed on Tithebarn Street say that the road will be subject to lane closures from tomorrow, with traffic subject to delays until June.
The road joins neighbouring Victoria Street, where work has been ongoing for months as part of the Liverpool City Centre Connectivity Scheme, a series of projects set to overhaul how vehicles move through the city centre.
Tithebarn Street will shut in sections, with the northbound section between Pall Mall and Vauxhall the first to close - that will mean fewer lanes for traffic travelling on the road.
It will be followed by the southbound section before the lanes between Pall Mall and Old Hall Street are affected from spring onwards.
The work around Tithebarn Street will eventually lead to the creation of a cycleway connecting the road to Lime Street, which is also set to be transformed.
The number of lanes for traffic on Lime Street will be cut down and a new public square is set to be added near the station.
Announcing the final plans for Lime Street last year, council cabinet member for highways Sharon Connor said the changes would mean visitors arriving through Liverpool's main rail terminal would now receive a "world class welcome".
Councillor Connor said: “A new public square outside Lime Street station and an expanded plateau at St George’s Hall will transform the experience of arriving in Liverpool and how people interact with arguably the UK’s greatest collection of iconic cultural venues. "
It is hoped roadworks on Victoria Street will be completed by March.
