Major city centre fire, dog sex vid paedo jailed and doctor blinded by covid

Good morning, these are the latest ECHO headlines today.

'Large scale' fire rips through building in Liverpool city centre

Twelve fire engines have been on the scene of a fire in Liverpool city centre this morning.

Emergency services are on the scene on the corner of Mount Pleasant and Brownlow Hill, oposite the Adelphi Hotel.

The fire is reported to be in a four storey disused building.

A Merseyside Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: "Residents and businesses nearby should close windows and doors. If you have an existing medical condition, keep medicine close and if any ill effects are experienced dial NHS 111 for advice.

"This is an ongoing incident, road closures remain in place, please avoid the area."

Doctor left blind after being rushed to hospital with severe covid symptoms

A doctor who caught covid last year has been left legally blind with cognitive difficulties after suffering a stroke during his five month stay in hospital.

Doctor Sanjeev Sharma was admitted into hospital on April 9, 2020 after finding himself unable to eat and drink with coronavirus.

After being taken in, it was found that he had caught the deadly virus and was quickly put on oxygen at Southport hospital.

The 66-year-old, who his wife described as previously fit and healthy, quickly took a turn for the worse.
