Major change at Cardiff Blues as team leave Vale training base immediately and builders start work at Arms Park

Cardiff Blues have left their training base at the Vale Resort and are moving the rugby operation to the Arms Park and Sophia Gardens.

Their plan is to be away for a year and then return to a new purpose-built facility at the Vale.

They have been at the Hensol Resort - where Wales are based - since 2008, sharing a building and training pitches with Cardiff City.

Now the Bluebirds have planning approved for a facility of their own at another site nearby.

And it’s understood the FAW are keen to move into the existing building at the Vale, once it’s vacated.

The Blues are now in the process of setting up temporary facilities at the Arms Park to see them through the next year.

The club shop and adjoining Martyn Williams Pack Bar have been knocked into one and are being converted into a gym/weights room.

Builders are working on site now, with the flooring set to go down and equipment moving in over the next day or so.

A medical room will also be set up on site, with conversion work currently being done on the media centre at the far end of the ground.

As for the on-field work, the Blues have hired a grass training pitch at Sophia Gardens, an area previously used by Wales and visiting touring teams.

They are also likely to train once a week on the artificial surface at the Arms Park.

All media activity will move from the Vale to the Arms Park, with the clubhouse trophy room and facilities at the adjoining Principality Stadium set to be utilised.
